The history of the company began in 1943 when our founder, August Reuchlen, established a repair service for surgical instruments in Tuttlingen which rapidly expanded into surgical instrument manufacturing by the late 1940’s.
In the decades since, August Reuchlen GmbH has steadily diversified its surgical product selection pioneering many innovative processes in the medical engineering discipline. Our breakthrough in growth was achieved with the development and, as a result of high demand, increasing manufacture of atraumatic cardiac and vascular clamps.

Reuchlen's staff of 60 professionals has been instrumental in pioneering new disciplines in medical engineering. One example: the world’s first instruments for robot-controlled total knee replacement were developed and manufactured on our premises in Tuttlingen.

Our striving is to place the finest instruments in the surgeon’s hands. The successful achievement of this goal has been a combination of the application of experience and technical skill in concert with our relentless investigation of new and innovative technologies in the manufacture of surgical devices. well-known surgeons such as Dr. Cooley, Dr. DeBakey and Dr. Glassman in the development of instrumentation in the cardiovascular, orthopaedic, neurological fields confirms our commitment to innovation.
